The Department of International Relations at Özyeğin University is a leading regional research and teaching center with a renowned niche for policy interaction. Our mission is to offer our students a rigorous international and comparative perspective on the contemporary global system, to foster their analytical thinking about complex global problems, and to equip them with cross-cultural understanding and language expertise.
Our department launched its BA program in Fall 2013, which has become one of the best International Relations programs in Turkey. Our faculty holds doctoral and other post-graduate degrees from renowned universities in the United States and Europe and has several years of professional experience in teaching and research at universities abroad as well as at leading institutions in Turkey. The faculty is diverse with international faculty members on board. The research interests and expertise of the faculty correspond to the different areas in international relations. We offer a wide variety of courses including International Relations Theory, International Law, Foreign Policy Analysis, and Turkish Foreign Policy. We also offer area studies courses on the European Union, Russia, the Middle East, and Africa as well as specialty courses on Leadership, International Migration, Political Institutions, Peace, Conflict, and Security Studies.
Offering a world-class education on par with international standards, at OzU Department of International Relations, we believe that International Relations should be studied interactively with current events involving national and international actors engaged in making and shaping policies. Therefore, the department is committed to working in a collaborative environment with the policy world and employs various joint projects with national and international policymakers and NGOs. We host many high-profile events turning our program into a meeting point between policymakers, journalists, NGOs, and academics for useful knowledge exchange. We ask all our students to complete mandatory internships throughout their undergraduate degrees to acclimate them not only to policymaking but also to leadership. Thus, from day one, our students become involved in the real world and make it a part of their understanding of international relations.
The graduates of our program have secured jobs in different sectors. More than half of our graduates hold private sector jobs either as professionals or entrepreneurs. The rest have either pursued graduate studies in top programs of Turkey and abroad, or a career in international organizations, public sector, and non-governmental organizations. The language skills that they acquire in our program have qualified many of them to work in countries such as China, France, Germany, Spain, and Switzerland. We also boast a high number of international students among our student body further contributing to our program's international focus and diversity.
