Civil engineering as one of the oldest engineering branches, today has a very important situation with the effects of improvement of the technology, rapid increase in population, and urbanization. Due to these rapid developments in the human life, alternation in the education of the civil engineering has been become necessary in terms of the methods, instruments and the quality. Civil engineering which tries to solve the physical problems by using mathematics, today has turned into a branch of science in which the development of technologies is predominantly based on computer usage. 

Civil Engineering Department of İstanbul Bilgi University takes place in santral istanbul (Eyüp) which is the most beautiful campus in İstanbul, namely, the most magnificent city of the world. I am very glad to be the head of Department of the Civil Engineering which is the oldest branch in engineering. The electricity power plant in the santral istanbul Campus which was constructed by using the reinforced concrete frames, was built in the Ottoman period and also these frames have been the first reinforced concrete structural member applications in our country. The electricity power plant was very important to provide the electricity of the whole İstanbul at the term of Sultan Reşat.

BİLGİ Civil Engineering Department started the educational life with 50 students in 2012 and became one of the most preferred department of civil engineering in foundation universities with increasing number of students over time. Apart from being the greatest department of Faculty of Engineering and Natural Sciences, the best students are accepted to the department since the beginning of its educational life.

The department provides 100% English education with part-time faculty members and assistants. The academic members of our department are the most influential scientists in their fields and they also carry out the functions of teaching, researching and guiding academic staff. First engineers graduated from our department in 2016. Some of the new engineers has been accepted to postgraduate studies in the most popular universities in our country and abroad, and others are working in private companies. 

Civil Engineering Department of İstanbul Bilgi University sees that graduating engineers is one of the main objectives of not only providing the theoretical and practical information that forms the basis of civil engineering but also who know how to design a safe structure against earthquake and similar natural destructions, who are aware of this responsibility and environmental problems and also generate solutions respectful to the environment.
