MA in Applied Economics
Description of the ProgramThe Işık University – Applied Economics MA Program is a 12-course program (courses are held at Maslak Campus, in the center of Istanbul's business district). The aim of the program is to equip students with economic reasoning and analysis skills which are necessary for decision makers and participants in key roles in major industries. The curriculum is based on the application areas of economic theory and quantitative techniques. The number and variety of the elective courses offered in the program provide students with expertise in various fields of applied economics. Students are expected to use economic theory, principles, and methods together with data analysis to model major industrial trends in structure, conduct and performance throughout the program. Development of academic presentation skills and project-based work skills throughout a diverse set of elective courses are among the opportunities offered in this program.
Who may apply? The Işık University – Applied Economics MA Program is designed for students who wish to work as chief economists, financial analysts, researchers, or consultants in private or public industrial firms or who may wish to pursue an academic career in a Ph.D. program later on. The MA in Applied Economics Program will provide students with the necessary toolbox of quantitative and methodological skills. Students who have a BA/BSC degree in any discipline qualify to apply to the program.
Why Choose the Applied Economics MA Program?Applied Economics is an increasingly popular sub-discipline in economics. It is attractive to those who are interested in analyzing and interpreting sets of economic data and using that knowledge as it affects firms and other immediate stakeholders in various industries such as healthcare, environment, communications, energy, transportation and finance, etc.. The goal of the MA in Applied Economics Program is to bring economic theory, quantitative techniques, and instances of everyday life together. Contrary to a traditional master's program in economics, the MA in Applied Economics Program at Işık University aims to give students application–oriented skills. Therefore, the program aims to fill the vacuum needed by corporations for skilled corporate economists who can explain, interpret and predict processes generated by experimental data. This program is also suitable for students who want to pursue a doctoral degree in economics or in other related fields.
